Risk Righting

Picture
"Risk Righting" is a term created by RopeStrat to emphasize that risk elimination is usually not possible, although many organizations spend a great deal of time and resources attempting to achieve it.  Instead, resources are better utilized by identifying the various types of risk, appropriately allocating the risk among the parties, and mitigating risk.  RopeStrat provides several types of training to appropriately manage risk and develop alignment among the key members of construction projects.  These include various offerings coordinated with DBIA (Owners Bootcamp, Developing an Acquisition Strategy, and Certification Training).

Combining key elements of Design-Build and Partnering best practices, Strategic Alignment Workshops (SAWs) are offerings unique to RopeStrat.

Design-Builder Focused SAWs - develop an integrated alignment between the construction contractor, design professional of record, and key trades and consultants.  This includes the development of a strategic approach to pursuing design-build projects (i.e., selecting the team members, go/no go factors, drafting effective Statements of Qualifications and Proposals, etc.).

Owner Focused SAWs - develop alignment among stakeholders within an Owner's organization (i.e., procurement, facilities, finance, engineering, legal, end users, etc.).  This Workshop emphasizes aligning expectations and an understanding of the Owner responsibilities unique to this delivery method.  This includes developing strategies to attract and select the best teams, with the best proposals, within the Owners' budget.

Owner Advisor Services

RopeStrat provides design-build Owner Advisor Services throughout all phases of the procurement process that emphasize DBIA best practices.  This includes development support for the acquisition plan, source selection process, and the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, with a focus on crafting effective evaluation factors and scoring methodologies. Post award services include development and administration of Award Fee Programs to further enhance the collaborative attributes of the design-build delivery method.

RopeStrat has provided these services for the following projects:  Linear Assets Modernization Project, Lea County New Mexico Courthouse Renovation,
Wahiawa̅ Center for Workforce Excellence, and the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.

Partnering/Mediation

Partnering - RopeStrat serves as a neutral facilitator. delivering a tailored partnering model for various design and construction projects by conducting Partnering Workshops, which include development of project charters, issue identification methodologies, communication matrices, issue resolution ladders, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) techniques.  This is a unique partnering model that tracks trends and works with project staff to develop collaborative solutions and make course corrections throughout the entire life-cycle of a project.  Partnering Workshops have been conducted for the following types of projects:  Justice Related (detention facilities and courthouses), National Security (National Laboratories and Land Ports of Entry), Higher Education (student housing and academic buildings), Public Housing, and Health Care (medical research facilities). The projects' budgets ranged from $30 million to $3 billion.

Mediation - Jim also assists parties to resolve disputes and avoid costly litigation by serving as a neutral Mediator.  He not only focuses on working with the parties to develop a successful settlement agreement but also focuses on repairing the business relationship to allow for future partnerships.
